ATC Signal Light Gun

The Signal Light Gun is a back-up communication device for use in Air Traffic Control Towers. Visual signals can be transmitted to aircraft and ground equipment when radio communication is not available.

The features of the Signal Light Gun include:

Application

The Digital Altimeter Setting Indicator (DASI) computes and displays Altimeter Setting Indication (ASI) for Air Traffic Controllers. ASI is displayed in four significant digits with no degradation in accuracy. DASI measures the atmospheric pres­sure and converts the measured pressure value into the actual sea level pressure based on the U.S. Standard Atmospheric Table. Elevation setting and ASI correction, if required, are implemented through a front panel keyboard. No periodic gain or slope adjustments are necessary. The sensor measures atmospheric pressure with an accuracy which provides the specified system accuracy of +/- .005 inches when the ASI reading is developed. The sensor is capable of withstanding pressure input of 15 to 36 inches of mercury without damage or requiring calibration. Built-in test functions are provided in the equipment to monitor computation or transmission errors.

VSBP

The Voice Switch By-Pass (VSBP) System provides operators with emergency access to VHF and UHF receivers/transmitters and associated signaling systems.

Application

The Voice Switch By-Pass (VSBP) System provides Air Traffic Controllers (ATC) with emergency access to the VHF and UHF air-to-ground receivers and transmitters during a failure of the primary voice switching system. Each VSBP equipment shelf supports up to four jack boxes and provides push-to-talk signaling, antenna switching options, and interconnection to facility demarcation (including connection to the facility legal recorder and air-to-ground transmitters and receivers). Each equipment shelf can be configured to three circuit types: Type 1 enables one operator to communicate on one specific frequency, Type 2 enables one operator to communicate on two specific frequencies, and Type 3 enables two operators to communicate on one specific frequency.
