NG1 Avionics I/O Converters
Compact · Rugged · Ready
Real-Time Avionics Data-to-Ethernet Conversion/Bridging
This groundbreaking embedded problem-solver delivers unbeatable performance and flexibility
to tackle even the most challenging system integration problems.
Ready to Stream
NG1 greatly simplifies the expansion and integration of avionics I/O with your computing system. In its basic mode, it reliably converts avionics protocol data (MIL-STD-1553, ARINC 429, serial, and avionics discretes) to and from Ethernet in real time without the need for custom code. This not only saves time and money, but reduces system SWaP by eliminating wiring runs.
Ready for Your Software
NG1 is also a secure and efficient 64-bit computing platform and fully capable of executing a high level of embedded control. With NG1, you have the flexibility to use it as a stand-alone controller or remotely control it through your host computer, depending on your overall system needs.
Ready When You Are
NG1 is ready for rapid deployment with no up-front NRE. It comes pre-configured and pre-validated with comprehensive MIL-STD-810/MIL-STD-704/DO-160 testing. At Astronics, our expertise is delivering proven solutions that minimize your risk and ensure the success of your program.

Scale Mission Computing Fast: Plug‑In I/O Expansion over Ethernet
The Ballard NG1 from Astronics reduces I/O complexity of mission computers by providing simple remote I/O expansion over Ethernet. It delivers out‑of‑the‑box simplicity for converting and streaming avionics data over an Ethernet backbone for distributed control or remote I/O applications, reducing costs and speeding deployment on C4ISR systems. I/O can be converted to or from Gigabit Ethernet in real time without the need for custom code.

MIL-STD-1553 to Ethernet
The NG1 Series supports up to two dual‑redundant MIL‑STD‑1553C channels (BC/RT/MON, single‑ or multi‑function), converting 1553 traffic to and from Gigabit Ethernet in real time. This enables seamless integration of legacy mission equipment into modern network‑centric architectures without custom gateway code.

ARINC 429 to Ethernet
With support for up to seven ARINC 429 channels (six receive, one transmit), the NG1 Series streams ARINC 429 data directly over Ethernet. This simplifies wiring, centralizes data access, and speeds integration of avionics subsystems into distributed mission and C4ISR networks.

Serial to Ethernet
The NG1 Series offers up to two configurable RS‑232/422/485 serial ports, bridging serial devices to an Ethernet backbone. Legacy sensors, controls, and maintenance interfaces can be quickly network‑enabled, reducing integration effort and deployment time.

Discrete I/O to Ethernet
With up to four programmable discrete I/O and four input‑only discrete I/O channels, the NG1 Series brings discretes onto the Ethernet network for distributed control and monitoring. Flexible configuration allows designers to tailor discrete signaling to specific platform and mission requirements.
Built for demanding mission environments, the NG1 Series provides a compact, low‑risk bridge from MIL‑STD‑1553, ARINC 429, serial, and discrete I/O to Ethernet. By simplifying integration and reducing custom development, it helps teams accelerate deployment, extend existing platforms, and evolve C4ISR capabilities with minimal disruption.
Specific I/O protocol mix depends upon COTS model chosen. Maximum I/O values shown, values are reduced when ordering more than one type.
